    Summary

    The Distribution to Underserved Communities Library Program (D.U.C.) distributes books on contemporary art and culture to public schools, libraries, prisons, and alternative education centers nationwide, free of charge. D.U.C. books create access the arts and literacy these institutions could not otherwise afford to acquire. 
    All items received from the D.U.C. must be cataloged in the applicant library's holdings and made available to all patrons. 
     

    History of Funding

    To date, the D.U.C. has placed over 400,000 free books in 7,523 public institutions across the country. A map of participating organizations can be seen at

    Additional Information

    The Poulin Project distributes the work of hundreds of contemporary writers and poets published by New York State independent presses to? public? schools,? ?libraries, prisons, and alternative education centers throughout New York State?, free of charge. Books are distributed in ?box sets of approximately 50 titles to 50 public institutions each year, making available 22,500 free books to 448 New York institutions since the project's ?inception in 2007.

    ?The project creates new avenues of access between local communities, writers, editors, and publishers to bridge readers and students with resources they would not otherwise be able to acquire.

    In coming years, the Poulin Project intends to further its mission to connect diverse communities within New York State by accompanying book distribution with educational programming that emphasizes context and conversation. The Poulin Project intends to activate distributed resources by facilitating their use in classroom curricula, library programming, and personal reading.

    Eligible applicants are Public schools and libraries that serves an underserved community. 

    Deadline Details

    Applications are accepted throughout the year.

    Award Details

    Award amounts vary. Participating libraries are to order books from the DUC catalog once annually. Applicants may order as many books as they like at one copy per title.
