    Summary

The California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) is dedicated to advancing meaningful, measurable improvements in the way the health care delivery system provides care to the people of California, particularly those with low incomes and those whose needs are not well served by the status quo. We work to ensure that people have access to the care they need, when they need it, at a price they can afford.

CHCF informs policymakers and industry leaders, invests in ideas and innovations, and connects with change makers to create a more responsive, patient-centered health care system.

CHCF supports the testing and evaluation of innovative approaches to improving care. We also commission research and analysis that policymakers, clinical leaders, payers, consumers, and the media depend on to better understand California's complex delivery system, in service of three overarching goals:
    • Improving access to coverage and care for low-income Californians
    • Ensuring high-value care
    • Informing decision makers

  • Eligibility Details

Grants awarded by CHCF are not limited to California entities or to individuals residing in California, however, projects must have relevance to California health issues. Examples include national projects that have California-specific components or projects that might result in lessons learned that would inform California initiatives.

    Deadline Details

Funding requests under $250,000 are accepted on a rolling basis. Decisions are made within three months after proposals are received. Requests above $250,000 will be considered only at board meetings which occur in March/April, June, September and December, annually.

    Award Details

Grant amounts are evaluated based on the proposal's fit with CHCF programs and objectives and in context of the project scope. An "up to" amount might be defined in a Request for Proposal (RFP) for any CHCF-initiated project.
