    Summary

The National Book Fund (NBF) provides adult basic education and literacy programs throughout the United States with New Readers Press books and other educational resources needed to support their literacy initiatives. NBF grants are made in the form of either the New Readers Press materials or online self-paced professional development courses requested in the grant proposal.
The NBF funds organizations providing services in the following areas: basic literacy, adult education, English language instruction, GED/HSE preparation, and family literacy.

    History of Funding

The Proliteracy National Book Fund has distributed more than 1,500 grant awards totaling more than $2,900,000 worth of materials. See a list of recent winners here: https://www.proliteracy.org/Portals/0/pdf/Programs/NBF/2016-2017%20NBF%20Recipients.pdf?ver=2018-02-16-142119-993.

    Additional Information

Approximately 65 percent of applications are funded.
The National Book Fund (NBF) does not fund requests to provide books for lending libraries or other resource centers where NBF materials are not directly linked to use with students receiving literacy instruction. The NBF does not award grants to individuals.
Programs that request NBF funds to use strictly as free distribution items are not funded.
