    The Alabama Power Foundation strives to bring good to all Alabamians and all corners of the state. The Foundation does this by connecting people committed to change to the resources and information they need to make a difference. The Foundation

    Funding is divided into the following award categories: 

    1. Foundation Grant: Foundation grants focus on the following areas: Educational Advancement, Civic and Community Development, Arts and Cultural Enrichment, Health and Human Services and Environmental Stewardship. Learn more at:
    2. Elevate Grant: The Elevate Program empowers nonprofits by providing funds for unique, replicable, community-centered projects and by providing capacity-building workshops and additional networking opportunities. Learn more at:
    3. Brighter Minds: Brighter Minds prepares students with the skills and knowledge they need the join the workforce and to lead our state. Brighter Minds has three main focus areas through which it works to improve education in Alabama: Stem and Workforce Development, Conservation Education, and Early Childhood Education. Learn more at:
    4. Power to Play: Power To Play supports extra curricular activities in high schools across Alabama. Funding is available for Art and Athletics Programs. Learn more at:
    5. Good Roots : Good Roots supports vibrant communities and a healthy environment. Trees are key to this. Recent studies show tree-shaded neighborhoods can be three to six degrees cooler than treeless ones. Shade helps save energy and makes our neighborhoods appealing and beautiful. Learn more at:
    6. Gateway Program: Gateway grants fund materials for community signage. Learn more at:
    7. Students to Stewards: Students to Stewards supports improved environmental education through greater math and science achievement. Funding is available for Curriculum and Outdoor Classroom Grants. Learn more at:

    History of Funding

    Additional Information

    Foundation Grants will not be used to support the following:

    • Groups acting on behalf of individuals.
    • Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, disability or gender.
    • Churches or other religious organizations, except when they are conducting secular programs that will have broad public impact.
    • Projects that affect communities outside Alabama Power's service territory.
    • Fraternal, athletic and veterans programs, except in cases in which the programs will have a broad public benefit or help disadvantaged individuals.
    • Organizations already receiving multiyear support from the foundation. Such organizations are required to wait at least one year after the current funding ends.
    • Primary and secondary private schools.
    • Political organizations, parties or causes.

    Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations in the state of Alabama.

    Deadline Details

    Grant requests are reviewed by the Alabama Power Foundation board quarterly; 2021 deadlines are:

    • February 5
    • April 9
    • July 23
    • October 15
