    The Sand Hill Foundation funds organizations and programs in San Mateo County and northern Santa Clara County, California – specifically, Daly City to Mountain View, from the coastside to the bay. They specifically fund local organizations with strong leadership, visionary plans for the future, and cultures of continuous learning. The Sand Hill Foundation will provide support for organizations within the following fields of interest:


    Growing Family Economic Stability

    Sand Hill Foundation funds programs in San Mateo County that help youth and families with low-income stabilize, grow, and thrive through:

    Education

    College access and completion programs for youth and young adults aged 11-25.

    Job Training and Entrepreneurship

    Creating career pathways through vocational and entrepreneurship training, and access to capital for small businesses.

    Housing Security

    Home preservation, shelter and rapid rehousing, and legal services to prevent homelessness.


    Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being

    Our goal is to develop seamless and equitable opportunities to access high-quality mental health and wellness supports in San Mateo County through:

    Prevention and Early Intervention

    Expanding access to culturally-informed and responsive mental health services and social-emotional programming designed to center the unique needs and experiences of young people and their families.

    Systems Change in Mental Health

    Our Wellness Partnership collaborative, building partnerships across the mental health care and youth-serving systems in San Mateo County to ensure delivery is more equitable, integrated, coordinated, and healing-centered.

    Access to Nature

    Elevating access to the restorative properties of time outside through environmental experiences and family-focused, nature-based programs.


    Advocating for Nature and Sustainable Communities

    We seek to preserve and protect our natural environment for future generations through advocacy and community engagement in these areas:

    Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

    Local policy planning and advocacy to ensure community resilience in the face of climate change, with a particular emphasis on the participation of disproportionately impacted communities.

    Open Space Preservation

    Opportunities to leverage public resources for open space protection, stewardship, and access improvements in San Mateo County.

    Sustainable Agriculture

    Efforts to build a more equitable, safe, and sustainable economy of local agriculture and fresh food distribution that benefits farm workers and families with low income.

    Additional Information

    Within our focus areas of Opportunity, Wellness, and Environment, we support local efforts that build family economic security, promote mental health and wellness, and advocate for nature and sustainable communities


    We prioritize support for community-based organizations rooted in San Mateo County, with a particular interest in the communities of Daly City, South San Francisco, Redwood City/North Fair Oaks, and the Coastside where the most families with low-income live in our County.


    The Foundation will support only those organizations with strong and consistently applied non-discrimination policies. Please note that we do not fund or provide loans for individuals or efforts designed to elect public officers.


    Partnership Criteria

    • Dedicate 50% or more of organizational efforts towards the people of San Mateo County
    • Focus on youth aged 11-25 and their families as they navigate daily life with limited financial means
    • Deliver high-quality programs and serve as a trusted community resource with strong leadership, visionary plans, and an appetite for continuous learning
    • Incorporate diverse stakeholder perspectives in planning and operations with demonstrable cultural competence and humility

  • Eligibility Details

    We champion the home-grown. To apply, your tax-exempt organization must work within our focus areas and dedicate 50% or more of your efforts towards the youth and families of San Mateo County as they navigate daily life with limited financial means.

    Deadline Details

    Letters of Inquiry from new applicants are accepted on a rolling basis. After a Letter of Inquiry is submitted, applicants will be notified within a month if they are eligible to proceed to a full proposal.


    Returning applicants may submit a full proposal with no LOI required.
